Making Preamp Module Retainer Clips for the Seymour Duncan Convertible
Last updated 3/5/05
A lot of people feel that the way the modules are designed to stay in the sockets
is a weakness in the design of the Convertible. While this has never given me any
trouble personally, I felt that there was some room for improvement in this area. So,
one day this idea came to me, I said to myself "Why don't I design some kind of module
retainer system that ensures that the modules do not move at all once inside the amp?"
And so was the birth the module retainer clip idea.
Here is a view of the module clips installed in the amplifier. These are very simple
to construct and to install the amplifier. No tools or modifications are required
for installation.
Here is a close up of the retainer clips. There is a lip that sits underneath
the enclosure and this makes use of a little bit of "spring tension" inherent in the
sheet metal that they are constructed of. The "PJM" tube logo is my own design using
my initials incorporated with a pentode power tube. These stickers are on here just to
give it a more professional appearance. I do not make these for sale to other Convertible
owners, so please don't send me an email requesting me to do so.
